Most couples have a few questions before they apply. Here are the answers we’re asked most often, based on years of helping destination couples get married in Florida.
How early can I apply for my license?
It’s never too early to start. If you have booked your wedding, you can submit your application and we’ll manage the timing so your license is issued within the appropriate window for your wedding date.
How long is my license valid for?
Once the Clerk of Court validates your license, it is valid for 60 days. We therefore time the court submission around your wedding date rather than issuing it too early.
We are having a same-sex wedding. Do we complete a different application?
No. You complete the same application. Florida marriage-license forms use language that applies to all couples.
What if I have to cancel or postpone my wedding after I have started my application?
Once payment has been made and the application submitted, payments are non-refundable. If you reschedule your wedding, contact us as soon as possible and we can usually hold your application and adjust the timing for the new wedding date.
If I was married before, do I need to submit my divorce decree?
You generally do not need to submit your divorce decree unless your previous marriage ended very recently. If you are unsure, contact us before mailing documents and we’ll help you confirm what is needed.
Can I mail my information sheet instead of applying online?
Yes. If you prefer not to use the online application, you can mail your information to us. Printable forms are available on the Forms page.

What forms of payment do you accept?
Payments are processed securely online. You do not need a PayPal account to pay by major credit or debit card where that option is available.
Can you mail the issued license back to me?
Yes, depending on where you live and your wedding timeline. For overseas couples, we may recommend keeping the license in Florida for delivery closer to your wedding to reduce the risk of international-mail delays or loss.
How long before my wedding will I receive my license?
Timing depends on your arrival date and wedding arrangements. We’ll coordinate the safest delivery option with you and, where appropriate, with your wedding planner or officiant.
How long after my wedding will I receive my certified marriage record?
After the completed license is returned and recorded by the Clerk of Court, a certified copy of your marriage record is issued. Timing can vary, but it is commonly received a few weeks after the wedding.
Can I order extra certified copies of my marriage record?
Yes. Additional certified copies can be ordered if you need them for your records, name changes or other official purposes. See our Certified Copies page for details.
Do I need to register my Florida marriage in my own state or country?
Requirements vary by jurisdiction. Many couples do not need to register the marriage separately, but some countries or agencies may require additional steps. If your marriage record needs to be authenticated for use abroad, our Apostille Service may be helpful.
